On a cold morning when the creativity is stronger than the heat of the sun, I dress in layers, put on fingerless gloves, and take a large coffee and a granny knee rug with me to the workshop space in my garden shed.
The best activity is flame painting the copper.. a gas torch heats the atmosphere well. With a rub of sandpaper to erase the errors, I play at creating rainbow designs on the copper.
Having been gifted an old piece of damaged copper art, I’ve created age-patterned moons and copper butterflies.
New Zealand has native copper butterflies which I love.
I have a trip planned to see the real copper butterflies dancing in the meulenbeckia in the sand dunes near Whakatane this summer.
Until then I’ll have to make do with creating my own... flight? flutter? swarm? ... kaleidoscope 😊 of butterflies.
